Nursing facilities are the most dangerous workplace in Maine and the fifth most dangerous workplace in the U.S., according to a new study from an insurance company.

The research, conducted by Allsup, a provider of Social Security Disability Insurance representation, looked at serious workplace injuries that resulted in an employee having a “job transfer or restriction,” or an employee being prevented from the typical functions of his/her job or from working a fully scheduled day. >>

New high-techs tools aim to lighten Marines' gear

The Gruntworks Squad Integration Facility showcased its latest initiatives to lighten and streamline the individual loads Marines carry into combat during the Navy League's 2015 Sea, Air, Space exposition in mid-April. 

On display was an advanced 3-D body scanner, a sophisticated computer simulation program, and a state-of-the art medical device commonly used by professional sports teams to measure performance and stress on joints. >>

Computerized system, donated by two Sun Health Foundation supporters, enables health professionals to test people's fall risks and stability and identify weaknesses, which can be addressed through exercises.

The Dell Rapids Area Hospital has purchased a new piece of helpful medical equipment thanks to a gift from the Dell Rapids Community Hospital Foundation.

The Biodex Balance System SD is the hospital’s newest edition of high-tech medical equipment. It’s used by physical therapy and is a balance testing and training tool that helps patients that suffer from balance related issues. Physical therapists are able to assess fall risk and then recommend exercises to help improve balance, agility and muscle tone. Other applications include screening athletes for single-leg injuries, concussion management, and wellness or fitness activities. >>
