Towne Center Community Campus in Avon Lake, owned by Kopf Builders and Sprenger Health Care Systems, held a ground breaking ceremony Oct. 24 that marks the beginning of an expansion project.

Towne Center Community Campus currently consists of privately owned condominiums, independent living apartments, assisted living apartments and a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. The ground breaking marks the beginning of a $3.5 million dollar expansion to enhance the existing assisted living and skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.

The project consists of four new additions totaling 22,000 square feet. All phases of the construction will happen simultaneously and are scheduled for completion in July 2012.

Phase one will add 12 one bedroom apartments to the assisted living facility, increasing the number of apartments from 30 to 42.

Phase two will add four semi-private rooms to the existing Alzheimer's/dementia wing along with a private parlor for residents and families.

Phase three will add 13 private rooms and one semi-private room to the short-term rehabilitation wing. Three existing semi-private rooms are also being converted to deluxe private suites and the resident dining room is being expanded. Phases two and three combined will increase the number of skilled nursing beds from 100 to 120.

Phase four will be the addition of a new Biodex therapy gym that will include modern equipment designed to improve balance and mobility.

Towne Center is located on SR 83, just north of Walker Road, at 500 Community Dr.
